Thunderstorms are one of my favorite phenomenons that occur in life. The smell of rain evokes emotions in me which I fail to comprehend. Combine the smell of rain with the raw power that a bolt of electricity has
, the impressive shock-wave of sound that rivets through the air, and the majesty of thick black clouds tumbling and billowing over each other, and one has the perfect blend of beauty, power, and nostalgia to create in me a sense of freedom so great, it seems to free me from myself. I feel a little lighter, and somehow, feel as if I could fly. It's surreal and I love it; and sometimes it makes me cry.
It's in the middle of such moments as these that I'm reminded, in a very tangible way of how powerful God is. Thunderstorms, are of course, only a fraction of the total energy God has, but I feel that thunderstorms are one of the most God-glorifying events that we have in nature. Their are so many parallels between the two. God moves in great power and size, and affects the world in very precise and pinpointed ways. God is also great and mysterious, and impossible to attempt to thwart.
I feel now, that I should write a song about a thunderstorm, during a thunderstorm. I feel that would be exhilarating. I've taken pictures of lightning before, while out in thunderstorms. Some of those are posted here.
Take time to feel this freedom yourself during the next time you have the privilege of witnessing such raw power. Muse over how powerful God must be.
